Volunteering with Habitat is a great way to meet new people, make new friends, learn new skills or put your expertise to work helping others. Everyone tends to think of construction when think about volunteering with Habitat, but there are so many ways you can get involved including:

Family Services

Would you like to work directly with Habitat partner families? If so, Family Services is the place for you!

Family Selection Team volunteers help perform home visits (in pairs) to applicant families in order to assess their eligibility for the Habitat program. These volunteers then report their findings back to the full committee.

Family Support Partners are assigned to a Habitat partner family to help them through the process after they have been accepted into our program.  Support Partners keep in close contact, monitoring progress on sweat equity and working with the family and Habitat to resolve conflicts that may arise.  They also report any changes in family status, such as addresses, employment, family size, etc., and attend educational workshops. Contact Jan Hunter at 843.681.5864 or via email at janhunter@habitathhi.org if you are interested.

Fundraising

Volunteers can help with our fundraising efforts by hosting their own fundraising events or by helping coordinate house sponsorship efforts for affordable housing projects like Women Builds or Faith Builds. Take a look at our newest initiative, House Parties for Homes here: https://www.lowcountryhabitat.org/housepartiesforhomes .

Special Events

Volunteers are occasionally needed to help with planning, setting up, running, and wrapping up special events and fundraisers. We always need willing volunteers for our Turkey Trot 5K which takes place annually on Thanksgiving Day. If you’re interested in volunteering for the Turkey Trot, please contact Michele Barker at michele@lowcountryhabitat.org or 843-522-3500, ext. 3004.
